2024 Oklahoma Football Countdown To Kickoff | 75-Yard Dash to Glory: Gabriel Leads Oklahoma’s Last-Minute Victory

Ice in His Veins: Gabriel Leads Last-Minute Drive for Oklahoma Victory

Dillon Gabriel wasn’t just slinging passes in the epic 2023 Red River Rivalry. He scrambled for 113 yards, adding a rushing touchdown to his 285 yards passing and another score through the air. But it was his clutch performance in the final minutes that truly sealed the win for Oklahoma.

With just 1:17 remaining and the score tied, Gabriel orchestrated a lightning-fast 75-yard drive in a mere five plays. The culmination? A game-winning three-yard touchdown pass to Nic Anderson.

Speaking about the final drive, Gabriel channeled the spirit of the legendary Al Davis, known for his “Just win, baby” motto. “Just finding a way,” he told College Football Live. “Finding ways is kind of the thing we turn to… just find a way to win is the big thing we preach.

Gabriel’s performance wasn’t just a win, it was history-making. His 398 total yards rank him third all-time for Oklahoma quarterbacks against Texas, trailing only the likes of NFL number one overall picks Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield.

“Those are two greats,” Gabriel acknowledged. “Just blessed to be a part of it and the tradition at Oklahoma… it’s something I’m blessed to be a part of.”
