It appears that Oklahoma will be without one of their top weapons, wide receiver Deion Burks, for Saturday’s Red River Rivalry game against Texas. According to reports, the Purdue transfer is expected to miss the game due to a soft tissue injury suffered against Tennessee.

Burks’ absence would be a significant loss for the Sooners, as he has been a key contributor in the passing game. His speed, route-running ability, and ability to make big catches have been valuable assets for Oklahoma.
With Burks out, Oklahoma will once again be without their top five receivers. Jayden Gibson, Jalil Farooq, Nic Anderson, and Andrel Anthony are also sidelined due to injuries. While Gibson is expected to miss the rest of the season, Venables remains hopeful that the others will return at some point.
“I feel good, from a receiver standpoint, that we’ll have some guys back in a few weeks,” Venables said on Monday night during his coach’s show. “We’ll see where Burks is here in the next couple of days.”
Oklahoma will need to rely on their depth and versatility at the wide receiver position to compensate for the absence of their top players. Receivers like Brenen Thompson, Jaquaize Pettaway, and J.J. Hester will need to step up and make key plays for the Sooners’ offense. It also puts more pressure on the Sooner tight ends to be productive as well.
