Why the Thunder Will Cover (-17)
OKC is coming off one of the worst meltdowns in modern NBA history, and that’s not an exaggeration. After allowing the Timberwolves to come back from down 25 in the fourth quarter, the Thunder—arguably the league’s best team—are going to want to make a statement, and what better way to do that than by absolutely destroying an undermanned team that has a small change of even making the play-in? The Nets will be without at least three starters, and the Thunder is essentially back to full strength, so I expect a solid bounce back from the Western Conference’s top team.
Why the Game Will Hit the Over (216)
This is a tricky point total because while OKC has held opponents to under 100 points 18 times so far this season, they haven’t done that at all since January 12th. The Thunder has the 4th-highest scoring offense in the NBA, and Brooklyn has the 2nd-lowest, but this could be such a big blowout that it doesn’t matter how few points the Nets score. I feel pretty comfortable with the over on this one because I think OKC blows Brooklyn out early, which will mean rest for starters and some extra scoring in garbage time.
