The SEC race tightened considerably after Week 7, and our panel’s new rankings reflect that tension. We’ve got a new No. 1 — and no unanimous pick anywhere on the board. Texas A&M claims the top spot after an impressive win over Florida, but it’s far from a runaway. Ole Miss and Alabama sit just behind the Aggies, with Georgia still lurking in striking distance. The top four are nearly interchangeable right now, depending on how much weight you give to momentum, strength of schedule, and head-to-head matchups. It’s clear that the SEC hierarchy has shifted from certainty to chaos, with any of the top teams capable of taking control as the season moves deeper into October.
From there, things get even messier. We’ve got three ties in this week’s poll — LSU and Oklahoma share the No. 6 slot, while Auburn and Mississippi State are deadlocked at No. 11. Florida and South Carolina also couldn’t be separated at No. 13, both battling inconsistency as they fight to stay out of the cellar. Some rankings were razor close — like the cluster from 4 through 7, where just a few points separated Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma — while others show how divided our panel remains on teams like Vanderbilt and Missouri. In short, this is shaping up to be the most unpredictable SEC stretch we’ve seen all season.

Comparing Week 7 to Week 8
The Week 8 SEC Power Rankings brought plenty of movement from last week, highlighted by a brand-new No. 1. After sitting in a tie for third a week ago, Texas A&M surged to the top spot following a convincing win over Florida and a steady all-around performance that continues to impress our panel. Oklahoma, last week’s unanimous No. 1, tumbled to a tie for sixth after falling to Texas — a major shakeup that completely altered the top of the board. Meanwhile, Ole Miss and Alabama both solidified themselves in the top three and proving that momentum matters as the season hits its midpoint. Georgia also benefited from Oklahoma’s fall, rising from fifth to fourth after another workmanlike victory that keeps the Bulldogs squarely in the title picture.
Further down the list, Texas made one of the biggest jumps, climbing from eighth to fifth after its rivalry win over Oklahoma, while Tennessee slid a bit but remained inside the top eight. The middle and lower tiers of the conference remained mostly stable, though LSU and Oklahoma ended up deadlocked at No. 6 — a sign that both programs are fighting for consistency as they navigate tough schedules. Auburn and Mississippi State held steady in a tie at No. 11, and Florida and South Carolina once again share the No. 13 spot. In short, Week 8 brought clarity at the top and chaos in the middle — a perfect reflection of an SEC race that’s tightening by the week.

1. Texas A&M | Moves up to No. 1. The Aggies handled Florida 34–17, producing a balanced attack and tightening their defensive grip. That performance, combined with Alabama’s narrow escape at Missouri, pushes them to the top spot.
2. Alabama | The Tide’s narrow 27–24 win over Missouri was gritty, but not dominant enough to hold back A&M’s surge.
3. Georgia | The Bulldogs stay locked in at the #3 spot after a solid win over Auburn. They showed resilience and consistency.
4. Ole Miss
5. Texas
6. Oklahoma
7. LSU

15. Kentucky | The Wildcats had a bye week, but stay near the bottom.
16. Arkansas — Remains last, especially after four straight losses and uncertainty at head coach.
