The more things change in the SEC, the more Oklahoma stays the same at the top. For the second straight week, all three of us — Caleb, Craig, and Matt — were unanimous in keeping the Sooners at No. 1 after their dominant 44–0 shutout of Kent State. The defense looked suffocating once again, the offense was balanced even without John Mateer, and the Sooners continue to set the standard for the rest of the league. Beyond that, though? It’s pure SEC-style chaos.
As always, our Heartland Sports SEC Power Rankings are tallied by assigning point values to each writer’s individual ballot (16 points for first place, one for last), then adding them up for a composite ranking. And once again, the results prove just how evenly matched — and unpredictable — this league really is.
This week, we’re still dealing with a handful of ties that reflect how clustered the middle of the conference remains. Alabama and Texas A&M are deadlocked at No. 3, while Auburn and Mississippi State stay tied at No. 11 for a second consecutive week. Down near the bottom, Florida and South Carolina are knotted at No. 13.
As for where we found some common ground — besides Oklahoma — there wasn’t much. We were relatively aligned on Georgia (hovering around the top five) and Vanderbilt (safely in the top ten), but opinions start to split fast after that. Caleb continues to believe in Ole Miss as a top-two team, while Matt’s got them at No. 5 and Craig’s holding steady with skepticism. Meanwhile, Texas remains a point of contention — hovering in the middle tier for all three ballots.
Bottom line: the top feels settled, but the rest of the SEC is a weekly fistfight. You can check out where every program landed — and how our three ballots compared — in the full Week 7 SEC Power Rankings below.

Comparing Week 6 to Week 7
It was another week of movement in the middle of the pack, while Oklahoma remained the unanimous No. 1 for the second straight poll. The Sooners held firm with a perfect 48 points, but the real shakeup came just below them. Alabama and Texas A&M surged into a tie for third place, both gaining ground after impressive wins, while Ole Miss slipped slightly but stayed steady at No. 2 following its bye week. Georgia rebounded from its loss to Alabama to tighten its grip on the fifth spot, and LSU crept closer to the top five with a slight boost in points. Meanwhile, Texas tumbled from fourth to eighth after a disappointing loss to Florida — the biggest drop among the top-tier programs. Down the board, Florida climbed out of the basement with a convincing win, jumping into a tie with South Carolina at No. 13. Auburn and Mississippi State remain locked together at No. 11 for the second week in a row, while Kentucky and Arkansas continue to round out the bottom, showing little momentum in what’s becoming a long season for both.
Individual Rankings
Caleb
1. Oklahoma | The Sooners rolled over Kent State, even without John Mateer. The defense finally got over the turnover hump and continued to look elite.
2. Ole miss | Ole Miss got the week off. After an impressive start to the season it was well earned.
3. Texas A&M | The Aggies rolled over Mississippi State. In a game I thought would be closer. A&M flexed how good their ground and pound game is with over 300 yards rushing.
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. Tennessee
7. LSU
8. Texas
9. Vanderbilt
10. Missouri
11. Aubrun
12. Florida
13. Mississippi State
14. South Carolina
15. Arkansas | Arkansas hasn’t looked good at all this season. Can the Hogs find a new identity, after firing Pittman, and turn around their season?
16. Kentucky | The Wildcats continue to struggle finding ways to put points on the board. After a 35-14 loss to Georgia, Kentucky’s disappointing season continues.
Craig
1. Oklahoma | The Sooners took care of Kent State without John Mateer. That being said, Oklahoma probably could have won that game if I was playing quarterback. The real test begins now as the Sooners take on their gauntlet of a schedule, with Texas up next.
2. Ole Miss | No game for Ole Miss means no movement for them.
3. Texas A&M | Teams keep losing and the Aggies keep winning. I’m not sold on them just yet, but they certainly have played well to start the season.
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. LSU
7. Tennessee
8. Missouri
9. Texas
10. Vanderbilt
11. South Carolina
12. Auburn
13. Mississippi State
14. Florida
15. Arkansas | Good news for Arkansas is that you can’t lose on a bye week. Bad news is they play Tennessee next.
16. Kentucky | The Wildcats have a much needed bye week after losing three out of their last four games.
Matt
1. Oklahoma | The Sooners stay at the top after a 44–0 dismantling of Kent State. Michael Hawkins looked poised in his first start, and the defense continues to impose its will.
2. Alabama | The Tide followed their emotional win over Georgia with another solid performance, pulling away from a sneaky-good Vanderbilt team late.
3. Georgia | Kirby Smart’s team responded exactly how you’d expect after last week’s loss — a decisive 35–14 home win over Kentucky.
4. Texas A&M
5. Ole Miss
6. LSU
7. Tennessee
8. Texas
9. Missouri
10. Vanderbilt
11. Mississippi State
12. Florida
13. South Carolina
14. Auburn
15. Kentucky | The Wildcats were simply overmatched by Georgia. The offense remains stagnant, and the defense can’t sustain pressure against elite lines.
16. Arkansas | Sam Pittman’s firing leaves Arkansas searching for identity.
