Does the Injury to Rodney Anderson Mean the Sooners Will Recruit Another RB in the Class of 2017?

SoonerScrimmage

I can’t imagine what Rodney Anderson is thinking right now. He will now miss the regular season with a neck injury. While it is certainly within the realm of possibility for Anderson to return and be at full strength next season, the Sooners could quite possibly be staring at this depth chart next year should Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine decide to head to the NFL

  • Rodney Anderson
  • Abdul Adams
  • JUCO Marcelias Sutton
  • Trey Sermon

Adams is a freshman this season. Sutton and Sermon are not yet even on campus and will be apart of the Sooners class of 2017. While I think the world of Sermon and I see how Sutton can be a nightmare matchup for Big 12 defenses, the fact remains that this depth chart is a bit sparse.

Scholarships are at a premium seemingly in the class of 2017, but I believe the Sooners MUST seriously consider adding another running back in the class of 2017. So who might they look at.

THE HOMERUN OPTION – J.K. Dobbins

Dobbins is a bit undersized at 5-10/195, but don’t let that fool you. He is a consensus 4-star recruit and is currently committed to Ohio State. His commitment appears to be a bit shaky as Ohio State appears to be the odds on favorite to land 4-Star Cam Akers. Should the Buckeyes land Akers, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Dobbins open things back up. It doesn’t hurt that Dobbins is from the state of Texas and the Sooners would be much closer to home.

THE GUY WE HAVEN’T HEARD FROM IN A WHILE – Anthony Davis

Davis (5-11/200) is from Lakeland, FL. The Sooners seemingly were in the driver’s seat a couple months ago, but things noticeably cooled a bit after the Sooners landed Trey Sermon. Davis would be an incredible commit for the class of 2017, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Sooners will get back in the race for the talented prospect from Florida.

THE DALLAS/FORT WORTH STAR – Kennedy Brooks

Brooks is no slouch in his own right. The 4-star prospect from Mansfield, TX has kinda flown under the radar but it’s hard to imagine a player being the under the radar when you have offers from Michigan, Texas A&M, and Arkansas.

Prediction: Kennedy Brooks is a part of the Sooners 2017 recruiting class on National Signing Day
