The Oklahoma Sooners overcame a 2-0 fourth inning deficit against #17 Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon to take the series against the Dirt Bags two games to one. After winning the opener on Friday night, LBSU evened the series on Saturday, with an 8-3 decision, making Sunday’s finale a series-deciding rubber-match.
Steele Walker went 2-4 from the plate and Renae Martinez, Lorin Archibald, Brandon Zaragoza, and Brady Lindsly all drove in RBI to lead the Sooners in victory.
Long Beach State took the lead in the top of the fourth off a 2-RBI double to left-center field from Luke Rasmussen. Oklahoma got one back in the bottom of the fifth when Lindsly scored off a single to the left from Martinez.
The Sooners went in front in the bottom of the next frame with a three-run rally that started off an Austin O’Brien sacrifice that scored Walker to even the score at 2-2. Archibald would then knock in Jack Flansburg, with a single up the middle, and then Martinez made it home on the third RBI-single from Zaragoza in as many days.
Sophomore Kyle Tyler went 5.2 innings from the mound, in his start for OU, allowing two runs off four hits and striking out three. Tyler gave way to freshman Braidyn Fink, who ended up with the win, with two away in the sixth. After Connor Berry pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out two, senior JB Olson closed out the game, picking up his first save of the year, by pitching the final two frames.
Oklahoma is back in action with a two-game, mid-week, series against Grambling State on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
