What seemed to be a long road ahead has narrowed down to just two more wins for Oklahoma Softball. The Sooners took revenge on North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon by pounding out thirteen hits and producing ten runs.
Nicole Mendes, Caleigh Clifton, Shay Knighten, and Nicole Pendley each crossed home plate twice as OU jumped to a 10-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. The Sooners were equally as impressive from the circle, and in the field, as they were from the plate.
Mariah Lopez improved here season record to 17-1 by throwing 5.1 innings, in which she struck out six batters and allowed just two runs off seven hits. With the Bison finally getting on the board in the bottom of the sixth, Patty Gasso turned to Paige Lowary for the final two outs. She did so by facing just three batters and striking out one of them.
NDSU handed Oklahoma their first loss of the post season by upsetting the #10 seeded Sooners in the regional opener on Friday. OU bounced back by eliminating Arkansas on Saturday and North Dakota State on Sunday. Now the only thing standing in the way of a Super Regional is the Tulsa Golden Hurricane who remain undefeated in the post season.
Oklahoma must beat Tulsa twice to advance with the first game coming on Sunday evening.
