On March 3rd of last season, Russell Westbrook dropped 48 points against the Phoenix Suns. However, it was not enough for the Thunder to come out with a win. The Thunder had to rely only on Westbrook way too many times last year. Sure, Russ was able to lead the team to several wins by scoring an absurd amount of points, but a lot of his big scoring was a waste when the team couldn’t come out on top.
Russell Westbrook seemed like an engine that could never get tired last year. However, there were some times where he didn’t seem to be all the way energized on road games or back-to-backs. This could be largely due to the amount of weight he had to carry on his back.
Now that the Thunder has added a second super star in Paul George, hopefully these kind of nights won’t be necessary for the Brodie. Yes, it is extremely fun to see him fill the stat sheet, but it also takes a lot out of the guy. I’m looking forward to seeing these two guys share some of the load here in 48 days.
