The first official team scrimmage for Oklahoma City took place today. The season is getting closer and closer as we are only a few weeks away from the first regular season game. If you just can’t make it that long, the Thunder will play the Houston Rockets on October 3rd in Oklahoma City for their first pre-season game.
As we count down the days we always try to bring some sort of statistic from Thunder history. Today, we are only 18 days away from tip off. Last season, the Thunder finished 18th in the league in both points off turnovers and loose balls recovered.
Finishing 18th isn’t bad, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Scrapping for loose balls isn’t necessarily gonna swing the game one way or another unless it’s in a crucial moment. However, scoring points off of turnovers is a must.
The Thunder came up with quite a few steals last season, but they weren’t always able to capitalize on those turnovers. Finishing on the other end is a major key when coming up with a turnover. Adding quite a few more scoring options on this team will likely increase this stat in 2017.
There’s no doubt that the addition of Paul George will help on the defensive side of things. This Thunder defense is primed for success. The big question will be what they can do on the other end of the floor. Look out for the Thunder to finish a lot higher in points off turnovers this coming season.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Russ can do it on his own:
