The Sooners made quick work of Saint Francis on Wednesday night as senior pitcher Paige Parker continued to solidify her place in Oklahoma Softball history. Parker allowed just one hit on the night, and struck out 12 SFU batters, in an 8-0 run-rule victory that only lasted five innings.
The victory was Parker’s 8th of the season and the 100th of her career, which places her fourth all-time at Oklahoma. She’s also second all-time in strikeouts (813), sixth in complete games pitched (73) and seventh in shutouts (31).
Oklahoma’s offense was slow developing but once they got started they were just as brutal to the Red Flash as Parker was from the circle.
“I think we started to figure it out when Paige came into the dugout fired up, and the team responded to her really well,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said. “When that happened, everything started to change.”
Sydney Romero knocked in Nicole Mendes in the bottom of the third for the first run of the night. Then Caleigh Clifton launched her third home run of the season, a 3-run blast, that put the Sooners up 4-0 in the third.
Jocelyn Alo plated Reagan Rogers in the bottom of the fourth to increase the lead to 5-0. Then the game came to a close with a 3-run fifth, highlighted by a 2-RBI double by Nicole Pendley.
Oklahoma is now 14-2 on the season.
