Clutch hitting has been the theme for Oklahoma Baseball this weekend. Center fielder Kyler Murray hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh to secure Friday night’s win and while Saturday didn’t bring quite as much drama, the Sooners still delivered in the clutch.
Sophomore catcher Brady Lindsly knocked in junior Blake Brewster, with his third hit of the game, in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 3-2 win in Saturday’s first game. Then senior Kyle Mendenhall dinged a three-run homer off the left field foul pole in the bottom of the bottom of the third to put Oklahoma ahead for good in what would ultimately be a 7-2 win.
Mendenhall’s dinger came on the hills of Corpus Christi taking the lead with a two-run shot in the top of the second. The timing wasn’t just clutch but it also shows the competitive mentality of the team is unwavering.
Senior Devon Perez picked up his first win of the season in game one. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball before giving way to relief. In the second game of the day it was freshman Cade Cavalli picking up his second win of the season in a six-strikeout performance.
