Oklahoma Downs #18 South Carolina For The Second Time

After using a Nicole Pendley grand slam, in the first inning, on Saturday to defeat South Carolina 4-2 the Sooners were back at it again on Sunday in the final day of the OG&E Tournament. Just like on Saturday, all of Oklahoma’s runs came in one inning and they were more than enough to secure victory.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second off an Alyssa VanDerveer solo shot, to left-center field, the Sooners got busy in the third. Hannah Sparks started the inning with a single to right field and then tied the game on a Nicole Mendes single up the middle. Mendes scored, along with Sydney Romero, off the bat of Fale Aviu. A batter later Jocelyn Alo came home on a sacrifice ground out from Pendley and then Aviu closed out the scoring on a wild pitch. When the dust settled at the end of the third Oklahoma had scored five runs off four hits, after sending eight batters to the plate.

Mariah Lopez improved to 5-0 on the season after throwing 5.1 innings in which she struck out five and allowed just one run on a single hit. In relief, Paige Lowary closed out the game by fanning two batters and allowing one hit over the final 1.2 innings.
