The Oklahoma Sooners hoped to start a winning streak with a midweek trip to Arlington. Toeing the rubber, Kyle Tyler and the rest of the ball club went to work against the UTA Mavericks. Refusing to give up a run, the crimson and cream built a comfortable 10-0 lead through 4.5 innings. Maintaining a favorable margin, Skip Johnson’s program earned a 11-5 victory starting a two game win streak.
During the evening, Kyler Murray starred in his home state of Texas while slamming a RBI double in the top of the first inning. The hit put the Sooners on the board after the previous two batters drew walks. Clearly patience at the plate is a staple being preached by this coaching staff.
The effort helped plate three runs in the opening frame putting OU firmly in control of the contest. Following up the success, the two-sport athlete recorded another double, this time tacking on two RBIs in the top of the second. As a part of an inning that saw four runners cross the plate, the Oklahoma lead ballooned to 7-0 at that point in the game.
However, Murray wasn’t done. In the top of the third inning, the sophomore outfielder was stepping up to the plate for the third time. Connecting with the ball, the potential MLB Draft Selection showcased speed beating out the throw to first. In doing so, Murray recorded the first three-hit game of his career.
Finding some footing before a tough Bedlam Battle, the Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Stillwater for game one against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
