Russell Westbrook hasn’t been spectacular in Oklahoma City’s first-round playoff series against Utah but the Thunder absolutely need him if they want to have any hope of coming back in this series. That was put in jeopardy on Monday night when Westbrook appeared to have left the scorer’s table to engage in an altercation with Utah’s Rudy Gobert.
Westbrook said that he thought he had heard the horn sound, indicating that he was clear to enter the game and the NBA seems to agree with that more than the narrative that he entered the floor for the altercation.
On Tuesday evening the league office announced that Westbrook would be assessed a technical foul for the incident and fined $10,000.
Westbrook scored 23 points in Monday’s Game Four loss but was also whistled for five personal fouls. For the series he’s averaging 21.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists but he’s only shooting 36.7% from the floor.
