Under the direction of Lincoln Riley, the coaching staff continues to hit the recruiting trail harder than ever. Finding success across the nation, the Oklahoma Sooners continue to climb the ranks.
No. 1 Ranked 2019 Recruiting Class
On Friday morning, the Sooners’ coaching staff received a verbal commitment from 4-star defensive end, Marcus Hicks. With thirteen different recruits pledging allegiance to the crimson and cream, the 2019 Recruiting Class Rankings entered a state of flux. During the shuffle, Rivals moved the Sooners into the top spot.
Possessing verbals from two 5-star headliners, Oklahoma averages 3.85 stars per recruit. The number sits slightly above the Alabama Crimson Tide at 3.79 stars. Of course, the recruiting landscape will continue to shift until the beginning of the early signing period. For now, it’s OU setting the standard that all others must strive to achieve.
No. 1 Ranked 2019 Recruiter, Cale Gundy
It helps when you have the nation’s premier recruiter on your coaching staff. Listed as the primary recruiter for numerous prospects, Cale Gundy was previously responsible for Adrian Peterson, DeMarco Murray, and Samaje Perine. Although the coach’s expertise had been in running backs, he was asked to branch out and break the mold in 2015. Assuming the role of Assistant Head Coach among other labels, the inside receivers coach has grow into his new role.
Setting the standard in the program, the recruiting coordinator earned five 2019 verbals of the thirteen listed. The most recent commit came from EJ Ndoma-Ogar toward the end of April. But, Gundy remained the point of contact for Theo Wease and Arjei Henderson as well.
The effort in the realm of recruiting places Gundy at the top of the list in Recruiter Rankings according to 247Sports.
