After a long night of internet debates and prognostications, Oklahoma’s head coach has offered some answers as to the future of the defense. Ruffin McNeill will take over as defensive coordinator for the remainder of the season and Bob Diaco will change responsibilities from being an analyst for the defense to coaching the outside linebackers.
The changes come the morning after Oklahoma parted ways with longtime defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, to which Riley also issued a statement.
“I have great respect for Mike,” Riley said. “He’s a quality football coach, great man and a close friend. It became time for a change in our program and that happens sometimes in football, but we cannot lose sight of the accomplishments Mike had at Oklahoma. He was responsible for a lot of success and deserves the gratitude of everyone associated with Sooner football, not only for his role in the winning, but for coaching with integrity.”
