Ruffin McNeill will make his debut as Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator following the firing on Mike Stoops. To say that the Sooners have struggled on the defensive side of the ball would be a massive understatement. OU is currently ranked 76th in scoring defense, 97th in total defense, and 125th in total defense. While the expectation certainly shouldn’t be for the defense to have suddenly corrected all of the problems, there will certainly be a lot of eyes on personnel and effort.

Mike Stoops Out As Oklahoma’s Defensive Coordinator

On Sunday Stoops met with Lincoln Riley and university president James Gallogly and from that meeting came the decision to part ways, in one aspect or the other. The decision comes a day after Oklahoma’s defense gave up 48 points in a loss to Texas. It was the most points the Longhorns had ever scored in the rivalry with Oklahoma, and it contributed in a major way to OU’s 48-45 loss.
