Thunder Rolls Over The Bulls In OKC

Craig Hofeld

Rapid Recap

The Thunder got off to a slow start in Oklahoma City on Monday night. The team was 2-11 from the floor at one point. The plan early on for OKC was to get the ball in the hands of Steven Adams. He was able to lead the Thunder to a 31-22 lead after the first quarter.

The second unit for the Thunder struggled a ton to start the second quarter. It was a very similar start as the first. OKC was 0-4 with two turnovers right off the bat. Paul George started lighting up the scoreboard half way through the quarter which gave the Thunder some separation. Oklahoma City held a 20 point lead at halftime.

The third quarter was definitely action packed. After a scuffle between Russell Westbrook, Robin Lopez, and Jerami Grant, all three guys received a technical foul. A few minutes later, Lopez wasn’t over it quite yet. He received his second technical foul and was ejected from the game. The Thunder looked good during the third quarter and held a large lead heading into the final quarter.

The starters for the Thunder played in the fourth quarter only long enough to ice this game. Halfway through the Bulls threw in the towel and the Thunder put in their bench. Hamidou Diallo had an impressive outing with some big dunks. Oklahoma City routed Chicago 121-96.

Thunder Player Of The Game

Russell Westbrook didn’t have the best shooting percentage on the roster tonight, but his contributions to this game were far too great to pass up for player of the game. Russ recorded another triple-double with 13 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists, and 5 steals.

Russ threw up some shots early and didn’t have too much success. From that point on, he took high percentage shots such as dunks and layups. The triple-double has become standard for Westbrook. The most impressive stat tonight was his 5 steals. Russ has been getting after it lately on defense and has even been diving for loose balls. It’s refreshing to see a performance like this from the Brodie.

A Couple Of Thoughts

• Hamidou Diallo Is Outstanding!

I’m going out on a limb here and saying that Hamidou Diallo is the best rookie in a Thunder uniform in several years. The energy he brings off of the bench is phenomenal. Tonight, he had another double-digit scoring night with 10 points.

I’m really hoping the Thunder organization develops Diallo the right way. The organization has done a great job at this in the past, but they’ve also let some guys get away. Hami is an extremely talented young guy, and he could easily be the future of this team. Let’s hope it all works out because the rookie is super fun to watch!

• This Team Is Fun To Watch!

The last few years of Thunder basketball has been frustrating to watch. It seems like Thunder basketball is finally fun to watch again. Even during bad games, this team still has enough life to compete. No matter what, this team competes. That’s what I love about this team compared to the last couple of seasons.

As long as this team brings it on defense every night, they’ll be one of the best teams in the league. Sit back Thunder fans, and enjoy the basketball that is being played in Oklahoma City right now.

Heading Back West

The Thunder will head to the west coast once again to play the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night. The game will tip-off at 9:00 PM CST. It will be televised on FSOK, and broadcast on the radio at WWLS 98.1 FM.

Oklahoma City lost the first two matchups with Sacramento. Both of those games the Thunder should’ve walked away with a victory. It’ll be important for the Thunder to keep this momentum going with a win over a Western Conference opponent on Wednesday, and to avenge their previous losses to the Kings.
