Lincoln Riley is in the habit of landing highly touted football recruits. He and his coaching staff currently have the top ranked recruiting class in the Big 12 and the nation’s 8th overall class. That class was boosted this morning with the announcement that four-star safety commit Jeremiah Criddell had chosen the Sooners over Oregon. His announcement, on national television, brought about an instant celebration party in the Oklahoma Football offices. It was quite the reaction for a group of guys that land four and five star recruits on the regular.
Signing Criddell was huge for Oklahoma’s defense. Especially in light of the fact that the Sooners have yet to name a new defensive coordinator.
Compared to former Oklahoma, and current Baltimore Raven, safety Tony Jefferson, Criddell is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s 124th overall prospect, the 12th ranked safety and 18th overall player from California.
The 5-11/188 prospect from Mater Dei High School, in Santa Ana, California, received 22 scholarship offers but seemed locked in on the Sooners after making a campus visit for the Bedlam game.
His announcement on Wednesday morning spoke volumes of Lincoln Riley’s recruiting. Riley’s reaction to Criddell’s announcement spoke volumes of the value he, and his staff, place on the guys they go after.
