Nick Collison is set to have his jersey retired on March 20th when the Oklahoma City Thunder hosts the Toronto Raptors. He will be honored in front of friends, family, teammates, Thunder officials and fans, and….Kevin Durant.
Back in May, when Collison announced his retirement, Durant said, “Nick meant a lot to me. As a young player, coming into the league. Just somebody I could lean on and build with. He’s a brother for life so I’m glad I met someone like that throughout this journey.”
When Durant left Oklahoma City for Golden State on July 4, 2016, he instantly vilified himself in the eyes of every single Thunder fan. Now that some time has passed, the hatred and vitriol of many fans has subsided, at least some, but it still rages inside of many. In light of the special occasion, Durant hopes that those feelings can be set aside.
“It’s about time for us to let go of all that extra stuff, and just come together – especially around this time, because it’s Nick,” said Durant.
Regardless of how you feel about the former Thunder legend, it is good to see that Kevin Durant is making time during his busy schedule on the West Coast to drop in to honor his former teammate.
