Oklahoma posted four runs in the third inning and then four more in the seventh to get past Kansas State in the opener of their weekend series.
After the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first Tanner Tredaway got Oklahoma rolling in the third with an RBI double that scored Brady Harlan. Tredaway then scored, from third, on a Diego Munez fly out to right field. Brady Lindsly and Brylie Ware also came in to score and the Sooners were sitting nicely at 4-1.
Four innings later nearly the same cast of characters posted four more runs to put the Sooners in control at 8-1. Tredaway scored on a single to right field from Ware, and then Justin Mitchell came home on a single from Munez. Lindsly would come home on a Conor McKenna single through the right side and Ware on a Brandon Zaragoza fly out.
From the mound, Nathan Wiles pitched a solid 7.1 innings, allowing just three runs while striking out six batters. Sophomore Legend Smith went the final 1.2 innings, allowing just a single run and striking out four.
The Sooners and Wildcats will play the second game in their series at 4:00 Saturday afternoon.
