After sowing up the 2018 Big 12 championship on Saturday night, the Sooners still had perfection and state pride to play for on Sunday as the Bedlam series moved back to Stillwater for a double-header.
Mariah Lopez struck out nine Oklahoma State batters and Sydney Romero hit her 17th home run of the season as the Sooners took the first game by a final of 7-1.
Shannon Saile matched Lopez in the series finale, striking out nine batters and allowing just one run, and Oklahoma went yard twice in the opening frame to set the tone in the second game.
Caleigh Clifton drew a walk in the top of the first, to become Oklahoma’s first base runner, and then Jocelyn Alo sent the ball out over the left field to put OU up 2-0. Freshman Grace Green followed Alo’s 2-run blast with a solo shot of her own and the Sooners were well on their way to a 6-1 win.
Oklahoma finishes regular season competition with a 48-2 overall record and their second consecutive 18-0 mark in the Big 12. After becoming the second team in conference history to go undefeated during the regular season last year, this season marks the first time in league history a Big 12 team has been undefeated in back-to-back seasons.
Overall, OU has won 43 consecutive conference games. The Sooners are undefeated in their last 54 Big 12 series (50-0-4 in that span), winning or splitting every series since 2011.
