Oklahoma secured a spot in next weekend’s Big 12 Baseball Tournament with a 4-2 win over Texas in Austin. Junior Nathan Wiles set a season mark by pitching into the ninth inning and struck out eight Texas batters along the way.
Center fielder Tanner Tredaway reached base on an error in the top of the first inning, and then came home when third baseman Brylie Ware sent a double to the gap in right center field. Oklahoma added another run in the second inning when second baseman Conor McKenna brought in Tyler Hardman on a single.
The Sooners added two more runs in the top of the sixth thanks to Tyler Hardman and Brady Harlan who both went 2-for-3 from the plate.
Oklahoma junior pitcher Jason Ruffcorn picked up his 11th save of the season, using just three pitches to induce a double play and a groundout.
The Sooners improved to 32-20 overall on the season and 10-12 in Big 12 play while the Longhorns fell to 26-26 overall and 6-15 in conference.
Oklahoma and Texas will play a doubleheader Friday due to the weather forecast for Saturday. Game times Friday are 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
