If the Sooners needed to pick up one more win at the Big 12 Championship in order to secure an NCAA berth then they’ve still got some work to do. Baylor bashed the Sooners 8-2 in the opening game, for both teams, of the Big 12 Tournament.
With two runs in the first, two more in the fourth, and three in the sixth the Bears had a 7-run lead before OU crossed home plate for the first time.
Oklahoma starting pitcher Cade Cavalli dropped just his third game of the season after pitching five innings where he struck out five batters but gave up four runs on six hits.
Five OU batters were able to register a hit in the game, with Tanner Tredaway and Brady Lindsly each going 3-for-4 from the plate. Lindsly recorded an RBI as well as Conor McKenna, who launched a solo home run in the top of the 7th, but the Sooners weren’t able to generate enough offense to stay competitive against the 2nd-seeded Bears.
The Sooners will play the loser of the Oklahoma State/TCU game, in an elimination game, at 12:30 Thursday afternoon.
