Another opponent, another shutout victory. Thus seems to be the life for Oklahoma Softball in 2021. The Sooners picked up their thirteenth win of the season on Friday and it was their eighth by way of shutout.
The 7-0 victory over Sam Houston was powered by Tiare Jennings and Taylon Snow who each recorded multiple hits on the night. From the circle it was a combination of Nicole May and Olivia Rains who held Bearkats to no runs and just one hit.
May picked up her fifth win of the season (5-0) in tossing five innings where she just allowed a single hit and struck out eight of the seventeen batters she faced. Rains threw the final two innings allowing no hits and no baserunners to preserve the shutout.
The Sooners got started on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when Jayda Coleman came home on a ground out to shortstop from Jennings. Then in the bottom of the third it was a groundout to short from Jocelyn Alo that scored Snow to make it 2-0.
Oklahoma posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth, aided by a Lynnsie Elam solo home run to left center field.
After bringing in Jana Johns in the fifth to make it a 5-0 score, Oklahoma plated the final two runs in the bottom of the sixth off the bats of Jennings and Grace Lyons. Jennings was the only player to record multiple RBIs on the evening. Coincidently it was Coleman that she knocked in both times.
Alo went 1-for-3 from the plate on the night to extend her hitting streak to 27 consecutive games. She also batted in her thirty second RBI of the season in the third inning.
OU returns to the diamond on Saturday where they’ll play #18 Missouri and Louisiana Monroe. First pitch for the Missouri game is scheduled for 12:30 (Central) and the ULM game is scheduled for a 5:30 pm start.
