The Thunder finished the season second to last in the Western Conference with an overall record of 22-50. This gave them an 11.5% shot at getting the number one overall pick in the 2021 draft. However, luck wasn’t on their side at the lottery on Tuesday night.
Oklahoma City landed at No. 6, with the Detroit Pistons coming in with the No. 1 pick.

To make matters worse the Houston Rockets came in at No. 2, meaning they get to keep their pick. If Houston had come in at No. 5, the pick would have belonged to Oklahoma City.
On top of the 11.5% chance at the No. 1 pick, OKC had a 76.3% chance of getting into the top 5. Things just didn’t go in the favor of the Thunder.
That being said, OKC is still in a fantastic position. As of now, the Thunder will draft at No. 6, No. 16, and No. 18 in July.
There hasn’t been a lot of luck found with the No. 6 pick. The last No. 6 pick to become an All-Star was Damian Lillard in 2012. Perhaps the Thunder will be the team to break this trend.
We are all aware of the assets that Sam Presti and OKC’s front office possess. It should be no surprise if the Thunder move up in the draft via trade.
