Sooners Pick Up First Crystal Ball Prediction Since Brent Venables Hire

Things have been a bit rough for Oklahoma on the recruiting front since Lincoln Riley bolted Norman for Los Angeles. More than a handful of high-profile recruits from the 2022 and 2023 classes have decommitted and the hope now is that the arrival of Brent Venables will bring that to an end. While the offensive staff is still coming together, it looks like Venables may have a chance to score his first win on the defensive side of the ball as the early signing period approaches.

Oklahoma was given a crystal ball prediction for Hays, Kansas prospect Jaren Kanak on Sunday. A 4-star athlete who has been committed to Clemson since late July, Kanak might be looking to stay closer to home now that the coach who was recruiting him is just one state south.

Kanak was actually offered by Oklahoma in May of this year but had his interests elsewhere with the likes of Alabama, Clemson, and Michigan also knocking on his door. Ranked by 247Sports as the top overall prep player from the state of Kansas in the 2022 recruiting class, and the #6 athlete in the class, his future seems to be at outside linebacker. That’s why Venables was recruiting him to Clemson and it’s why he is now looking to entice him to Norman.

At 6-2/210 his size and frame are perfect for an outside linebacker and his speed (also a track guy) would be an excellent attribute at the position as well.
