Everyone has a position, and everyone has a responsibility. Defining those for Oklahoma’s newest addition to the 2024 class might be a bit tricky, though. On Thursday, the Sooners added Andy Bass from Heritage Hall (Oklahoma City), as the 20th member of the class. Bass becomes the twelfth 3-star commitment in the class brings versatility with him. Listed as an “athlete” Bass leads the Heritage Hall offense from the quarterback position, but he’s capable of doing so much more. In 2022 he threw for 2,833 yards, and 17 touchdowns, while also running for another 970 yards and 17 scores, while leading Heritage Hall to a 14-1 record and the 3A state championship.
Rated as a 3-star recruit, the 5-11/200 prep star is ranked as the #11 overall player from the state of Oklahoma, and joins a recruiting class that currently ranks #16 nationally. He’s sitting on 15 scholarship offers and chose the Sooners over Syracuse and Kansas State. He’s the first “athlete” commitment for OU, in the 2024 class, but he’s definitely going to factor in on the offensive side of the ball, where he can be involved in multiple facets of the game plan.
“OU has always had one of the most explosive offenses in college football, so that’s something I can’t wait to be a part of it,” Bass said. He was recruited by Oklahoma running backs coach DeMarco Murray but his impact should reach well beyond the running back room. In Bass, the Sooners have a guy who can run, pass, and catch at a high level and then he brings track speed into the equation. He won the Oklahoma 3A 100-meter state championship as a junior with a wind-aided 10.56. Also ran a wind-legal 10.65 100 during junior track season in Spring 2023.
Andy Bass may only be a 3-star recruit but he just might possibly be the most versatile member of Oklahoma’s 2024 class.
