Why the Thunder Will Cover (-14.5)
Just a couple of weeks ago, these two teams met in an NBA Cup game that was a dog fight. This one could be the same, but in the end, I see the Thunder covering because of the rest that some key guys have received. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, and Alex Caruso are all returning from injury after sitting out at least the last game, and if the Suns have to go without Devin Booker (strained right groin), then OKC could make this one a blowout early. Still, it is the knockout round of the NBA Cup Tournament, and the competition tends to go up in these meetings, so expect Phoenix to play with a little extra incentive. In the end, though, I’m taking the Thunder to win big and cover the spread.
Why the Game Will NOT Hit the Over (225.5)
I’m having a really hard time taking the over on the point total in any Thunder game at this point, especially one that has higher stakes than a regular game. OKC’s defense is suffocating, and they’re holding teams to the fewest points per game in the league. Add to it that this is the knockout round of the NBA Cup, and I don’t see this one going over the point total.
