For the second time this season, Oklahoma pitcher Jake Irvin has been honored by the Big 12 Conference. After throwing six-scoreless innings in OU’s 12-0 win Friday night, in the series opener, Irvin was instrumental in setting the Sooners up for their fifth shutout win of the season.
In Friday night’s win, Irvin struck out ten batters, marking the fourth time this season that he’s fanned at least ten batters or more in a game. It was also the first time in his Sooners career that he struck out ten or more batters in back-to-back conference starts.
It was the second time in as many months that Irvin has received the weekly conference award and it’s the third one of his career joining him with Jonathan Gray and Dillion Overton as the only OU pitchers to win three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week awards during their career.
Irvin sports a 6-1 record on the season, with a 3.20 ERA, and he leads the conference with 88 strikeouts.
