The moment we have all been waiting for is finally almost here. We are just one day away from the Thunder’s regular season opener, which means we are continuing with counting down our top 10 Thunder games to watch this season.
Coming in at #1 on our list is in fact the season opener against the Golden State Warriors in Oakland. This game is #1 for a number of reasons, and while it does matter more about how you finish than how you start, the Thunder would love to get a win on the road to start the season, especially against the Warriors.
The Thunder-Warriors rivalry truly began in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, but the fire was fueled more so by Kevin Durant’s departure from Oklahoma City and his signing with Golden State in free agency.
The Thunder is 2-6 against the Warriors in the two years since Durant’s exit, but Oklahoma City split the regular season series 2-2 last year. Three of the games were not even close as they were each decided by 17+ points, whereas the final matchup was a 4-point victory by the Warriors in Oklahoma City.
Russell Westbrook had one of his best games of the season against the Warriors at home on November 22nd.
He also had an absolutely unforgettable slam dunk in the 20-point win in Oakland on February 6th.
No matter the outcome of the game in Oakland, there is bound to be some level of drama, and Thunder fans should be excited to get a look at some of the new players as they join in on the rivalry.
