Oklahoma scored three runs in the first inning and then five more over the fourth through six innings to open the Hillenbrand Invitational with an 8-3 win over Bryant
Five of Oklahoma’s eight runs came on homer runs, with junior Jocelyn Alo going deep in the fourth and again in the sixth for a pair of 2-RBI dingers. Lynnsie Elam also went yard in the fifth with a solo shot.
Patty Gasso continues to tinker with her pitching staff in an effort to establish some experience for the younger pitchers. Freshman Macy McAdoo picked up her third win on the young season (3-0) after entering the game in the fourth inning. She tossed two innings of no-hit ball before giving way to Shannon Saile in the sixth. One of Oklahoma’s two seniors on the staff, Sail picked up her third save on the year while holding Bryant to just one hit, and striking out three, over the final two frames.
Redshirt freshman Brooke Vestal drew the start but was replaced in the third having allowed one run off three hits. Freshman Olivia Rains was the first hurler out of the bullpen. She gave up two runs off two hits in her lone inning.
Alo was the only Oklahoma player to record multiple RBI and was just one of two players with multiple hits. Taylon Snow went 2-for-3 from the plate and scored three runs.
The Sooners will play Northern Iowa in their second game of the invitational at 8:00 pm (Central).
