The Oklahoma City Thunder had their fair share of fourth-quarter comebacks in the regular season. They’ve done it a few times in the postseason, as well. But when Indiana led 89-80 at the start of the fourth quarter of Game 4, it FELT like an insurmountable deficit for the Thunder.
OKC tied it up at 89-89 less than four minutes into the period, but with just 3:20 to go in the game, Tyrese Haliburton scored on a finger-roll layup to put the Pacers on top 103-99, and it FELT like the game was over.
All of a sudden, the tide turned. As the shot clock wound down through a scrambled possession, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up a shot from deep to cut the deficit to one. On the next possession, Alex Caruso blocked Andrew Nembhard’s layup attempt, which led to a stepback jumper from SGA to give OKC the lead.

The Thunder would go on to finish the game on a 12-1 run—SGA scored 11 of those OKC points—to tie up the series at 2-2, regaining homecourt advantage. The fact is, it doesn’t matter how the game or even the series FEELS, because when you’ve got a young squad full of tenacious players who refuse to quit, feelings just don’t matter.
The facts say that the Thunder is the better team, and the records say as much, so if OKC can forget the poor shooting night in Game 4, forget the talk about how they’re “too young,” and forget the fact that so many people want them to lose for any number of reasons, then they can get back to what got them to this point, take care of business in Game 5, and head back to Indianapolis with an opportunity to close out the series and bring home the Larry O’Brien trophy.
