The new era of Oklahoma State football was supposed to be a turning point. After back-to-back losing seasons, including arguably the worst season in school history last year, the Cowboys were supposed to turn the corner and get back on the winning track behind new head coach Eric Morris and a load of talented transfers. Quite the opposite happened in the season opener for Oklahoma State as they dropped a 24-10 decision on the road against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
The dawn of a new era in Stillwater is finally here. This day has been a long time coming for Oklahoma State football fans after back-to-back losing seasons, including just a single win last year. The Cowboys kick off the 2026 season by hosting in-state rival the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Turnpike Classic. Last season, the Golden Hurricane defeated the Cowboys 19-12 in Stillwater, something that hadn’t been done since 1951. Now, Oklahoma State has a chance to right the ship.

A rough start to the season is not a direct indicator of what will happen later down the road, but the Cowboys have not shown much of anything that leads me to believe that they can turn things around any time soon. The offense is inept in basically every area of the game, and the defense finally put some stops together in the second half against the Golden Hurricane, but literally every team left on the schedule is a far better team than Tulsa. It’s time for Cowboy fans to face the music: Oklahoma State football has reached a new low.
