2019 Big 12 Football Power Rankings | Week 12

Week 11 was another week of limited action in Big 12 play but also another week of significant movement in our power rankings as teams are running out of time to jockey for position in the conference championship race.

Four teams were on the move in our poll this week with Kansas State taking the biggest plunge (3 spots) and Texas seeing the biggest rise (3 spots) from last week’s rankings.

Heartland Sports Week 12 Big 12 Power Rankings

1. Baylor49
2. Oklahoma46
3. Texas36
3. Oklahoma State36
5. Iowa State28
5. Kansas State28
7. TCU22
8. Texas Tech13
9. Kansas12
10. West Virginia5

1. Baylor | The Bears escaped with a triple overtime victory over TCU to remain undefeated. Baylor hosts the Sooners this weekend to find out who should be number 1 and on the inside track to the Big 12 Championship.

2. Oklahoma | The Sooners also had a close call against ISU giving up 20 unanswered points in the 4th quarter but got a big stop on a 2 point conversion. This week they face Baylor and I’m really looking forward to seeing OU’s offensive line against Baylor’s defensive line.

3. Oklahoma State | OSU had their bye and hosts Les Miles and the Jayhawks, who have been playing tough football, so the Cowboys will need to show up ready to play. Oklahoma State’s run defense is going to be key in this game.

4. Texas

5. Kansas State

6. Iowa State

7. TCU

8. Texas Tech

9. Kansas | Kansas also is coming off their bye week and will need to play aggressive to get a win in Stillwater.

10. West Virginia | The Mountaineers got demolished by the Red Raiders Saturday and are firm in my 10 spot. But they travel to the Little Apple to take on the Wildcats this weekend.

1. Baylor | The Bears barely escaped the Horned Frogs in triple overtime last week. Winning is all that matters, and Baylor remains the only undefeated team in the Big 12.

2. Oklahoma | Big game for the Sooners this weekend as they’ll get an opportunity to get their top spot back. They’ll need to play a lot better than last week in order to accomplish that.

3. Texas | The Longhorns have worked their way back into the top three after spending a few weeks on the outside. Does Texas still have a path to the conference championship?

4. Oklahoma State

5. Iowa State

6. Kansas State

7. TCU

8. Texas Tech

9. Kansas | The Jayhawks and the Mountaineers have the same record. However, Kansas gets the higher spot for being far more competitive in games this season.

10. West Virginia | Definitely a disappointing season for the Mountaineers. Unfortunately, their remaining schedule is pretty tough as they’ll face two top 25 teams in their final three games.

1. Oklahoma | The Sooners squeaked by Iowa State, but a win is a win. Saturday’s matchup with Baylor will decide if OU stays at the top.

2. Baylor | Just like the Sooners, Baylor barely (no pun intended) got by TCU, but a win is a win, and they’re still undefeated. If they can upset the Sooners on Saturday, they may very well be on their way to the College Football Playoff.

3. Oklahoma State | I’m not going to punish the Cowboys for a bye week, especially when no one else has played with any level of consistency. They’ve still got a chance to finish off a really good season.

4. Iowa State

5. TCU

6. Texas

7. Kansas State

8. Kansas

9. Texas Tech | The Red Raiders slapped the Mountaineers, so at least they’re not the worst.

10. West Virginia | It’s official. Kansas is no longer the worst football team in the Big 12. It’s West Virginia.

1. Baylor | Avoiding a scare and collecting a win, Baylor may have been caught looking ahead. Yet, the program is still undefeated with a chance to run the table. That counts for something as Baylor retains the top spot.

2. Oklahoma | In a similar situation, the Sooners accorded the upset. Looking to return to the Big 12 Title game, there’s still work to be done. A second half collapse keeps OU at number two.

3. Texas | Returning to form with a win over a ranked Kansas State, the Longhorns could easily find themselves with a Big 12 Championship in hand as well. The win pushed UT back into the top three.

4. Kansas State

5. Oklahoma State

6. Iowa State

7. TCU

8. Texas Tech

9. Kansas | There may not be another win coming this season but it a competition for that bottom spot right now. KU has the week off and therefore there is no movement.

10. West Virginia | Getting blown out by the Red Raiders in front of a home crowd forced WVU to the bottom of the heap once again.

1. Baylor | Win and advance. That’s all Baylor has done this season and they’re really good at it.

2. Oklahoma | Not looking as good as they were about a month ago but there’s still enough football to right the ship.

3. Texas | I feel like the #3 spot as been a revolving door this season.

4. Oklahoma State

5. Kansas State

6. Iowa State

7. TCU

8. Kansas

9. Texas Tech | In a game that had a secured spot in the Big 12 basement on the line, the Red Raiders played one of the better games we’ve seen from them this season.

10. West Virginia | I’m not going to lie…its kind of weird not seeing Kansas here.
