Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Nearly a Double-Digit Favorite for Noon Tip-Off Against Minnesota
OKC is 1-2 against Minnesota this season, and the Thunder hasn’t covered in any of those three games. These two teams know each other VERY WELL, and as a result, it’s created a lot of close meetings over the last couple of seasons. 5 of the last 7 regular-season games between the Thunder and the Timberwolves have been decided by single digits, and I think this one will be the same. One thing to keep an eye on: Anthony Edwards is listed as questionable with knee soreness, but I anticipate that he plays. If he has to miss, the Timberwolves could struggle to stay afloat. Isaiah Hartenstein is questionable as well, and while I don’t think he plays, he would help the Thunder out tremendously down low. While I’m taking the Thunder to win, I like Minnesota to cover.

The Oklahoma City Thunder sits atop the Western Conference standings, but maintain their positioning could get difficult as they enter the toughest part of their schedule so far this season. Tonight, the Thunder heads to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves, who have won two straight after losing their previous 5 games.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are probably about as close to a rival to the Thunder as anyone. 12 out of the last 19 meetings (including last year’s playoffs) have been decided by single digits, and that is likely to happen again tonight. Although Isaiah Hartenstein is making his return for OKC, the Thunder is still without Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, Alex Caruso, and Ajay Mitchell. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves are almost entirely healthy. While I do think the Thunder can pull out the win—Minnesota has been streaky lately—I do think the game will be decided in the last couple of possessions.

The Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back from their second loss of the season with a 122-101 victory at home over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. The Clippers jumped out to an early double-digit lead in the first quarter, but it wouldn’t last for long as OKC took a 9-point lead into halftime before blowing the game wide open in the third quarter. Now, OKC is headed to Minnesota, where they play the second game of a back-to-back against the Timberwolves.

The Thunder traveled from OKC to Minnesota last night after defeating the Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota had a day off. That alone makes me think the game might be a little on the closer side. However, Anthony Edwards has missed the last few games, and he’s questionable for tonight. If he’s able to go, expect a tight game. If he doesn’t, perhaps OKC could open it up a bit. I’m leaning towards a Timberwolves cover, though.

Before Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (illness) was even listed as questionable on the injury report, I expected this to be a close game. Minnesota has lost two straight games via late-game collapses, and they need a solid performance to get back on track. While I still think OKC wins, if SGA is out, it could be a lot more difficult. Add to it that these teams have built up a bit of a rivalry recently, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one was decided in the final minutes.

The Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back in a big way in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals as they led the Minnesota Timberwolves for nearly the entire game, holding on late for the 128-126 win to take a 3-1 lead in the series. Now the Thunder has a chance to close out the series at home, earning their first appearance in the NBA Finals since 2012 and just the second in franchise history.

This could certainly be a game that the Timberwolves win, sending the series back to Minnesota, but I expect the Thunder to close out strong in front of the home crowd. On the cusp of just the second NBA Finals appearance in franchise history and coming off a fantastic performance from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren, don’t be surprised if the Thunder wins this one by double digits.
