Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Remains a Solid Home Favorite for Game 2 Against Minnesota

I expected the Timberwolves to cover the spread in Game 1, but OKC came out in dominant fashion and took care of those ideas early in the second half. Minnesota missed a ton of open threes—particularly from their solid bench trio of Naz Reid, Donte DiVincenzo, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker—so it makes sense that they’ll bounce back a little bit tonight. I fully anticipate another OKC win following the announcement of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP announcement, but the Timberwolves will just barely cover the spread.

The night before the All-Star Break, the Oklahoma City Thunder played its 6th game in 9 nights. It was the second game of a back-to-back, and they had to travel on the road to Minneapolis. OKC lost to the Timberwolves sans Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle 116-101, and it left some questions as to whether the Thunder has what it takes to win big games against tough competition.

I feel the constant need to post a reminder of how difficult it is to handicap this Oklahoma City team. Due to the “tank factor” you really never know which lineup we’ll see and how many minutes of playing time the starters will receive. That said, this should be an OKC cover tonight. Minnesota has only been a favorite three times this season and they’re 1-2 in those games against the spread. Overall the Timberwolves are 8-10-1 against the spread at home and when the line is between (-2 to -5) they are 0-1.
