Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Favored Over Washington In Largest Spread of the Season
OKC has been favored in every game that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has played (and then some), but none by this many points. The Wizards have one of the deepest injury reports in the league, and they’ve been eliminated from playoff contention. OKC is so close to full health, and I think this game is going to be similar to the result in Brooklyn on Wednesday, so I’m taking the Thunder to win big.

The Oklahoma City Thunder plays their 6th game in 10 days on Thursday night as they host the Washington Wizards. The Thunder last played on Tuesday night, a 107-101 result that required a comeback from OKC. Meanwhile, the Wizards dropped a 139-134 decision at home to the Philadelphia 76ers in overtime.

This is just too many points for me. The Wizards have the worst defense in the NBA so far, but OKC has shot worse than any other team from downtown. I do think the Thunder uses this game as an opportunity to improve their % from three, and they should win by double digits, but I won’t be surprised if Washington just barely covers this spread late in the game.

The Oklahoma City Thunder got back on the winning track on Friday night as they handily defeated the Knicks 126-101 in New York. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 39 points, Isaiah Joe poured in 31 points behind 8 made threes, and OKC’s defense was able to stifle New York into a poor shooting night. Now the Thunder looks to continue building towards a new winning streak on Sunday evening as they take on the Washington Wizards on the road.

This is a giant spread under normal circumstances, but when you take a closer look, you realize it’s really not that outlandish at all. OKC’s average margin of score is +12 points, and Washington’s average is -13.6 points. The Thunder has won 14 games by at least 16 points—one of those was an 18-point victory against the Wizards in OKC just a few weeks ago—so they should be able to handle business and roll over Washington just fine.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will look to give fans an early Christmas present on Monday night as they host the Washington Wizards. The Wizards are just 5-22 on the season, and OKC is nearly a 20-point favorite as Washington is missing their best player in Kyle Kuzma.

OKC is covering the spread 60% of the time, which isn’t bad, but it’s not great. Washington, on the other hand, is covering at just a 36% rate, and that’s because they’ve already suffered a lot of really bad losses. 12 of their 22 defeats have been by at least 19 points, so it makes sense that the best defense in the league should be able to cover that difference against the worst team in the NBA. This spread will likely be decided in garbage time minutes, which means I’m taking OKC’s depth over whoever Washington decides to have on the floor at that time.

The Oklahoma City Thunder kicked off their return from the All-Star Break in an explosive way as they handily defeated the LA Clippers 129-107 last night. Tonight, they host the Washington Wizards in the second game of a back-to-back, and while the opponent should be a far easier matchup, the result will likely be the same.
