Shai’s Record, Chet’s Presence, and a Reminder of Who Runs the West

Sunday night in Dallas was a reminder. The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder didn’t just beat the Dallas Mavericks 100–87. They walked into a hostile…

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #62 Preview: Dallas Mavericks

After a pretty difficult schedule in February that featured 10 of 12 games against playoff teams, the Thunder get some relief with what should be an easier game to manage in Dallas. Still, in spite of the injuries and the difficult schedule, OKC went 7-5 in February, staying atop the Western Conference standings. The Thunder still has one of the toughest remaining schedules, but even more important than finishing as the top seed in the West is getting the team fully healthy. As they inch closer to that, OKC’s depth will play a huge role, as they should be able to help manage games like this one against a lesser Dallas squad, giving everybody a little bit of a rest.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Heads to Dallas as Massive Favorite Against Mavs

The Mavericks have lost 12 of their last 14 games, and 7 of those losses have been double-digit defeats. OKC isn’t completely healthy yet, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is back, and it looks like he hasn’t missed a beat. Shai’s absence did the Thunder some good, though, as OKC’s backcourt seems more suited for stepping up when he’s off the floor. This should be a good game to cover the spread simply because the Thunder’s depth is so much better.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Looks to Extend Winning Streak as Heavy Home Favorite Over Mavs

OKC feels like an unstoppable force. Even when it feels like an opposing team has a chance, the Thunder down the stretch is inevitable. The Mavericks, on the other hand, continue to improve as Anthony Davis stays healthy and Cooper Flagg settles into his role, but they’re still a struggling squad. Their 3-game win streak ends tonight, but I don’t think it will quite be a blowout as the spread suggests, so I’m taking Dallas to cover, even if it is on a couple of late baskets.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #4 Preview: Dallas Mavericks

The Oklahoma City Thunder finishes out their 3-game road trip on Monday night as they take on the Mavericks in Dallas. The Thunder handily defeated the Hawks in Atlanta on Saturday night to stay perfect, while the Mavs picked up their first win of the season last night at home against the Toronto Raptors.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Heavily Favored in Dallas

The Mavericks haven’t had the best start to the season, but this spread seems a little big for me. They picked up their first win yesterday against the Toronto Raptors, and while they are far from healthy, neither is OKC. I think this will probably be a little closer with the Mavs just barely covering the spread late, especially if Chet Holmgren is unable to go.
