Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #43 Preview: Miami Heat

The Thunder and the Heat just played in OKC last Sunday—a 124-112 win for the Thunder. Miami played OKC close in the first half, even leading by 5 at halftime, but the Thunder put together one of their patented third-quarter bursts to take over and cruise through the fourth period unscathed. OKC is near full health at this point in the season—Isaiah Hartenstein remains out—but Miami is dealing with a handful of key injuries ahead of tonight’s game.

Tonight, the Thunder hosts the Miami Heat, who are coming straight from Indiana, where they dropped a 123-99 decision to the Pacers last night. Miami never had the lead, and the third loss in four games came likely as a result of a pretty poor shooting night. OKC will need to play its signature defense if it wants to slow down a pretty solid Miami offense.

The Oklahoma City Thunder led by as many as 23 early in the second half in Orlando on Thursday night, but the Magic didn’t go away quietly as they cut their deficit to 3 by the end of the third period and a couple more times early in the fourth quarter. OKC never relinquished the lead, though, as they held on to win 105-99. Now OKC takes on the Miami Heat in the second game of a back-to-back on the road.

The Oklahoma City Thunder avoided what would have been a season-high third straight loss on Monday when they defeated the Washington Wizards 136-128 on the road. Now OKC plays their fourth road game in 8 days as they take on the Miami Heat, who are missing Jimmy Butler due to injury.

Thunder Against the Spread | Take OKC as a Slight Underdog Against Injured Heat

A few reasons make me think OKC is a good cover as a 4-point underdog against the Heat in Miami on Tuesday night. First off, Miami is depleted due to injury. Jimmy Butler is playing, but Kyle Lowry (left knee discomfort) and Duncan Robinson (surgery on right 2nd finger) are both out, while Bam Adebayo (right wrist contusion) and Tyler Herro (sore left achilles) are both questionable. Add to the fact that the Thunder has played really well lately, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is making a strong case to be not just an All-Star, but a starter for the Western Conference, so it looks like OKC has a good shot at getting a win in Miami.

The losing streak continues to grow for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and it’s unlikely to come to an end tonight as the Thunder takes on the Miami Heat in the second road game in three days. Despite all the losing, OKC has fought in a number of games, including on Wednesday night in San Antonio when they trailed by 16 to the Spurs before rallying to take a lead with just a few seconds left in the fourth quarter. Lonnie Walker IV managed to hit a contested three with a little over a second left on the clock to give San Antonio the lead and the eventual win.
