The Sixers are 25-15 on the season and sit at 4th in the Eastern Conference standings. These two teams met just two weeks ago on New Year’s Eve, a matchup that Philadelphia controlled easily from start to finish. OKC continues to play without a true big man, and while it has been difficult at times, the Thunder has found a way to make it work. Tonight’s task of slowing down Joel Embiid will not be an easy one, though.

Thunder Against the Spread | Take OKC as a Slight Underdog Against Injured Heat
A few reasons make me think OKC is a good cover as a 4-point underdog against the Heat in Miami on Tuesday night. First off, Miami is depleted due to injury. Jimmy Butler is playing, but Kyle Lowry (left knee discomfort) and Duncan Robinson (surgery on right 2nd finger) are both out, while Bam Adebayo (right wrist contusion) and Tyler Herro (sore left achilles) are both questionable. Add to the fact that the Thunder has played really well lately, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is making a strong case to be not just an All-Star, but a starter for the Western Conference, so it looks like OKC has a good shot at getting a win in Miami.

Winners of three of their last four, the Oklahoma City Thunder has been on a roll lately. At 18-22, the Thunder is just 1.5 games back from a play-in spot in the Western Conference standings and just 2 games back 7th place. After rolling over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, OKC is set to host the Miami Heat on Tuesday night in a game that will be nationally televised, a rarity for the Thunder over the last few seasons.

After a long road trip, the Thunder is finally back in OKC, and I think the home crowd is going to play a part in this one. The Heat are without Jimmy Butler, and Miami doesn’t have a defender that can slow down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. I’m taking OKC to win this one.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tied his career-high on Monday night against the Dallas Mavericks with 42 points, but the Oklahoma City Thunder was unable to close the gap late against the Mavs losing 121-114. After a 5-game road trip, OKC returns home on Wednesday night to host the Miami Heat.

OKC trailed by 16 against the Spurs on Wednesday, but they roared back cover the 10-point spread (and nearly won the game). Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is once again questionable with a sore ankle, so that’s likely the reason for the larger than normal spread, but Miami is a dangerous team regardless. Still, I’m taking OKC to cover because 16 points is an abnormally large spread, even for a tanking team.

The losing streak continues to grow for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and it’s unlikely to come to an end tonight as the Thunder takes on the Miami Heat in the second road game in three days. Despite all the losing, OKC has fought in a number of games, including on Wednesday night in San Antonio when they trailed by 16 to the Spurs before rallying to take a lead with just a few seconds left in the fourth quarter. Lonnie Walker IV managed to hit a contested three with a little over a second left on the clock to give San Antonio the lead and the eventual win.

I got burned by Oklahoma City’s lackluster offensive performance against Brooklyn on Sunday night but I’m still approaching Monday with some confidence. Clearly if Jimmy Bultler isn’t able to go then that’s a huge advantage for the Thunder. Even if Butler plays though, Miami is only outscoring opponents on the road by an average of 3.2 points per game. OKC is getting beat by an average of 4.8 points per game at home and those averages would favor the Thunder against a 9-point spread.

The Oklahoma City Thunder’s win streak came to an end last night at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets, and the competition doesn’t get much easier tonight as the Thunder hosts the Miami Heat. After starting the season 6-1, the Heat are 8-5 after winning just 2 of their last 6.

Let me throw one more key stat out to you. Oklahoma City is 16-13 against the spread on the second night of a back-to-back while Miami is 10-17-1 after a day off.
The Heat may very well win this game but it won’t be by more than six points.
