Just a few days ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder looked like they were on the brink of tanking the rest of the season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was out for a string of games, and the Thunder had lost 5 straight. OKC got back in the win column on Friday night with a blowout against the Utah Jazz, and then they did something on Sunday against the Jazz again.

Thunder Against the Spread | Take OKC As Road Dogs Against Curry-less Warriors
When these two teams met just a week ago, the Warriors shot the lights, and OKC struggled early. Down by 20 in the first half, the Thunder roared back to make it a 2-point game midway through the fourth, but they couldn’t get over the hill, and a handful of late free throws pushed Golden State to cover the spread. Now the Warriors are without Steph, and even though this one is at Chase Center, I can see the Thunder pulling this one out.

Tonight’s matchup looks a little different from a week ago as Steph Curry will is now out for a few weeks due to injury. With no Curry, the Warriors will rely more heavily on Jordan Poole, which could work either way for the Thunder. Poole is one of the league’s top turnover artists, but he’s also incredibly crafty, so if he plays an efficient game, it could bite OKC in rear. With Luguentz Dort still out due to a strained hamstring, the Thunder will really need to lock in on defense, something they struggled with early in the first meeting between these two teams.

Golden State has struggled to cover the spread, not doing so even half of the time. They’re especially bad on the road, failing to cover twice as often as they actually do. Admittedly, some of their struggles this season have been due to injuries, but even though they’re healthy and OKC is a bit hampered, I see the Thunder keeping this one close. Who knows? OKC might even pull out a win…

Not too long ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder was a championship contender and in the thick of building a great new rivalry in NBA basketball. Viewed as one of the only teams in the league that could legitimately go toe-to-toe with the Golden State Warriors, a dynasty in the making, every matchup was must-see TV. We all know how that story ended, though, as Kevin Durant entered free agency, actually chose to go to the Warriors, and the rivalry slowly dissolved from there.

Tonight’s matchup is the start of a 3-game West Coast road trip as the Thunder takes on the Golden State Warriors. These two teams met earlier this week—a 106-98 win for the Warriors—so it will be interesting to see if much has changed since Tuesday.

The most exciting matchup of the night should be Steph Curry, who has emerged as an MVP favorite, going up against Luguentz Dort, one of the NBA’s premier backcourt defenders. Steph’s brother Seth Curry shot lights out against the Thunder in the first quarter on Sunday, but maybe Dort can slow down Steph a bit tonight.

Now, as the Thunder begins their 14th season, I am finally a season-ticket holder. The Thunder hasn’t had fans in the building since March of 2019, and I for one could not be more excited. Yes, it’s almost guaranteed to be another tank season, and I’m more likely to be in the building for a loss than a win, but I’m still pumped. The NBA announced the full schedule for the 2021-22 season Friday afternoon, so without further ado, here are the 10 games that I’m looking forward to attending the most (in chronological order):

The proof is in the results already. Oklahoma City has failed to keep it close in two games against Golden State this season. Unless the Warriors decide to rest the entire roster there should be no reason to believe the Thunder can keep it close again tonight.

The Oklahoma City Thunder trailed by double digits for most of their matchup against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday evening, but they managed to make it a close one before falling at home 103-99. Tonight, the Thunder kicks off a 4-game road trip, which features an interesting schedule quirk where OKC plays the Golden State Warriors twice in a row before playing the Sacramento Kings twice in a row. Tonight’s matchup with the Warriors may seem to be of little consequence at face value, but in reality, there is a lot riding on the result.
